What are nice wedding Flowers for a summer wedding in the UK?

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I am getting married next year and I want a few ideas of what flowers are nice to use for a summer UK wedding.
I like peony roses and tulips.

I’d say go with the roses and peonies. The tulips in my opinion wouldn’t go with those flowers. Then add some greenery I heard recently that people are putting herbs in as greenery. Maybe some rosemary or thyme? The woodiness of their aroma should go nicely with the sweetness of the rose and the peony.

which UK flowers will attract butterflies in my garden ?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

I am thinking about planting some flowers in a small patch in my garden to attract butterflies.
Its a very shaded patch with only about 2 hours os direct sunlight a day. if im lucky enough to have sun shine lol .
No special reason for attracting butterflies other than seeing my daughters faces light up when they see them flirting around. :)

Buddlieia—–or common name is the Butterfly Bush.

Can I bring cut flowers into the UK from Holland?

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Yes you can.
So long as the bouquet is…
no more than 50 stems,
shows no sign of disease or any bugs,
is carried as part of your ordinary baggage, and
is intended for personal use rather than trade (hence the limited number of stems) it’s fine.
You’re even allowed to bring in a bunch of cut flowers from outside the EU (subject to the same limits).

If you’d like to check it for yourself, here’s the government factsheet on personal imports of plant material from DEFRA: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/illegali/pdf/personal_plants.pdf

Frangipani flowers for a UK wedding?

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Does anyone know if it is possable to have Frangipani flowers in a wedding boquet in England. I got engaged in Australia and they were the flower of our holiday and i think they are beautiful but i dont know if i can have them, they dont grow wild in UK, its not hot enough but can a florist get them for my wedding?
Has anyone any experience with getting exotic flowers for a wedding?
They are also known as Plumeria
i think we have decided to include them on things like the invites but as we wont be able to get real ones :( il have to have something else for my real flowers.

I just came across your question while searching for photos of frangipanis as my art study subject. I don’t think you can find them in UK. When i was in UK some time ago, i only came across the name Frangipani – a hobby shop in cottage craft center in Tenby, Swansea. I,m now in Malaysia, and we have a lots of frangipani here – variety in species and colours. It is one of soft item for landscaping in resorts and widely used in spas. Definitely it is tropical grown species – meaning that you can find them in countries of South-East Asia region.

Good luck.
